Major Development: (A very welcome, long-over due development. HL); Bulletin; Innocence Canada (Formerly called 'AIDWYC') is overseeing the creation of a Canadian Registry of Wrongful Convictions, based loosely on the format devised by Innocence Projects in the U.S. for the creation of the Registry of Exonerations..."A group of lawyers and law students – including those working under Professor David Tanovich at the University of Windsor, Faculty of Law – are working together to create a Registry focused on Canadian content, specifically wrongful convictions arising in Canada. This Registry Working Group will identify all wrongful convictions in Canada, verify the validity of these cases as legitimate wrongful convictions, collect data pertaining to the details of the conviction, and write case summaries of each conviction. The end result will be the creation of a registry of all wrongful convictions in Canada. The Registry will address cases beyond the cases that AIDWYC has itself worked on for the purpose of improving public awareness of the systemic nature of wrongful convictions in the Canadian criminal justice system. The Registry will further be an excellent source for academic research, as a registry like this does not yet exist in Canada."

"As part of AIDWYC’s Legal Education Initiative, we are increasing our web presence and the number of resources available for Canadians to help prevent wrongful convictions.  As part of this process, AIDWYC is overseeing the creation of a Canadian Registry of Wrongful Convictions, based loosely on the format devised by Innocence Projects in the U.S. for the creation of the Registry of Exonerations: http://www.law.umich.edu/special/exoneration/Pages/browse.aspx.
